The Department of Economics and Finance aims to educate students who will speak in every field where there are monetary relations in the simplest sense. The way of doing business in the world is changing. Business processes have become much more interdependent, fast and advancing with technological innovations. The increase in financial dependence of global supply chains and major economic shocks, as seen in the 2008 Global Financial Crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic, have created the need to address the economic and financial disciplines together. Turkey, on the other hand, is the focus of this change with its young population and dynamic economic structure integrated with global business and financial markets. This environment has also changed the requirements in the business world. Today, the business world needs more people than ever to understand, evaluate and present appropriate solutions to complex economic events by using economic and financial theory together.
What makes the Department of Economics and Finance special is that its students receive a solid knowledge of economics and finance together and are trained to use this knowledge in business life. While compulsory courses offer them basic economics and finance knowledge, elective courses have opened the way for them to easily specialize in the fields they want. Courses in areas such as banking, financial management, portfolio management, risk monitoring and modeling, capital markets, derivatives, artificial intelligence will enable students to have in-depth knowledge of the field of interest. In this way, our students will not only be one step ahead of other candidates in national and international financial certificate exams such as CMB Licenses, CFA, FRM, but also will have the chance to have a career that will create their own demands in the job markets.
Our students who have graduated from the Economics and Finance Undergraduate Program; they will be able to work in companies operating on a global scale, local and regional working firms, non-bank financial institutions such as insurance, portfolio management companies, investment funds/partnerships, independent audit companies, domestic and foreign enterprises requiring economic and financial analysis, public and private research units and public institutions and organizations such as CBRT, BDDK, CMB.
On the other hand, with the double major program opportunity provided by our university, our successful students also have the opportunity to finish a second undergraduate program.
